Day 6 - Dix Hut to Cabane
des Vignettes
From the
Dix hut we cross the Glacier de Cheilon, and climb the Glacier de Tsena
Refien, at first steeply then more gently to near the Col de la Serpentine.
A short but quite steep climb, often done on foot with crampons, leads
to the gentle slopes near the Col du Brenay, where we join the Plateau
du Couloir version of the Haute Route coming up from the south. Both routes
lead easily up to the Pigne d'Arolla and the great descent to the Vignettes
hut.

Skiing down
from the Pigne d'Arolla. The Vignettes hut, our destination for the day
is out of view to the left. Tomorrow, we will ski up the gentle slopes of
the Glacier du Mont Colon, seen here, before crossing our three cols and
arriving in Zermatt. |

These
are the slopes below and just north of the hut. One day when we
arrived early, we could not resist taking a few runs down this great
hill. Kathy and Roger look back at their handiwork.
