Return to all recent trip

From left to right: Jeff, Steve, Gianna, Rick, and Bruce.

Our base camp: the Nyvagar Rorbuhotell and Lofoten Ski Lodge.

The snow cover is a bit thinner than last year, but still plenty to slide on!

Fine weather for our first day. We headed up to a nearby hill.

Calm winds and beautiful sunshine.

Nearing the top of our slope.

We take in a summit!

Snowy ridge crests and ocean views, that's what we came here for!

465 465 465 465 465 465

The end of a satisfying day on skis.

Our second day was.... not so auspicious. A bit of mist, snow squalls, some wind, it's all good.

All the more satisfying to head in to the sauna later.

On day three, we changed our minds and headed out for a more distant tour to avoid crowds.

Luminous moments enlivened the cloudy day.

A wintry wonderland of snow, ice and water.

Stopping for a quick bite...

Nearin what turned out to be our high point.

The slope we had hoped to ski ended up showing signs of instability, so we called it a touring day and headed back.

Day four, we got in more vertical. Approaching a high col here.

Heading back up after a nice lap in good snow.

Climbing back out from our run down to a frozen lake.

Ripping the skins for our final descent back down to the cars.

The run homeward yielded very good snow, and a lucky moment of good visibility.

Bruce making it look good.

Mark readies to head down.

The lovely afternoon light of Norway.

Navigating birch thickets is part of the challenge.

And the last glide into the barn.

The evening scene near the lode.

Glassy calm on the water this evening.

On day 5, we explored an area just outside of Svolvaer. A great view of the town and the harbor.

Beautiful sunshine, almost too warm for the climb.

A pause at a high col before heading down the back side.

It was worth stalling for a few minutes for a break in the clouds.

Our best run of the trip so far, good snow, good visibility, and sunshine!

Untracked back here!

One more pitch...

... and yet one more.

Steve coming in to home plate.

Then the climb back out...

Back up into wind and sun.

A little side trip to eke out a bit more vertical.

Negotiating an icy bit to bet above the rocks...

And onto another untracked slope.

Later that night, Northern Lights!

Our last day, still energetic enough to defy gravity!

We had another day of mostly great weather to explore the area around Rundfjelet.

Great snow for a run down to another frozen lake.

... and up again!

Everyone enjoying the last bit of sunshine before heading onto the shadowy side.

Looking for northerly snow...

And finding it!

A view of the lodge.

And another display of the aurora! A great send off to cap a beautiful week of skiing. Thanks to the gang, hope to see you all again soon.
