First day on the skis, winter 2019-20 • November 21, 2019

Here are a very few photos from our first day out on the skis.

We did a short tour up towards the Col du Grand Saint Bernard. With the foehn wild blowing over from Italy, the closer we got to the Monastery, the worse the weather became. Not wanting to risk the potential hazards of skiing in a white out, we turned back before it got too nasty.

Being back on the skis felt good.

Though it looked as though there had been quite a bit of wind on the Swiss side, the snow lay deep in many protected places.

Into the mists.

Deciding to turn around.

Though it is "too early to tell", (think Brexit, or the US 2020 presidential election), the Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research shows the southern portion of the Swiss Alps with over 170% of normal for this time of year.

A good start.
