Tom Hoehn, Col des Dards tour • February 12, 2019
Tom Hoehn, alumnus of Kathy's 2016 Chamonix to Zermatt glacier trek, made it over to Chamonix from his home in Zurich, for a bit of ski touring training with Kathy (and Mark accompanied as support and photographer). |
21st century technology! How we love it! Route previewing while awaiting the lift opening at La Flégère. |
Waiting "patiently" for a somewhat late opening on the chairlift. |
At last we're underway! Gorgeous day in the mountains. |
A stiff and bitter NE wind deterred us from our plan A, a tour behind the ridge of the Aiguilles Rouges. Instead we chose a more conservative option of touring up above Lac Blanc. |
Heading over to our new and improved objective. |
Not too shabby! |
Getting up high above the lake. |
And higher still... |
Sticking to wind-sheltered slopes, and avoiding the busier bowl nearby the snow was pretty darn good on the descent! |
Super! |
Tom likes it too! |
The Mont Blanc massif is impressive viewed from this side. |
First tracks are not hard to find back here. |
And more.... |
![]() And more!!! |
And still more!!!! Getting boring? Not to us!!! |
OK, we paid a price on the descent, the last bit down to the ski area was pretty concrete-like and tricky in a warm afternoon sun. But still fun, in a sick sort of way, if you like that kind of thing. Thanks Tom for getting out and about with us! |
