Akbar Khan Alpine Climbing in Chamonix • July 8 - 11, 2017

Following a very successful Tour du Mont Blanc with Family and Friends, Akbar stayed on in Chamonix for a few days of climbing with Mark. We had some challenging weather and conditions to contend with, but in the end, climbing was accomplished.

Chamonix climbing - August 2015

We started with the Petite Aiguille Verte, and an introduction to alpine ice climbing.

First steps out onto the ice.

The Petite Aiguiile Verte was in remarkably icy condition, at least for so early in the season. We climbed up on the left and descended on the right.

The "Demilune" partway up the route.

On the last icy pitch up.

And the summit photo.

We down climbed most of the normal west ridge.

One our second day, we started up in the Aiguille Rouges, hoping to climb a route called Somone. But rain and persistent cloud chased us back down into the valley. The afternoon was put to good use, however with a lead climbing clinic at Les Gaillands, the local city park-cum-rock climbing crag. A busy place on a marginal weather day.

And on our last day we did get on Somone. Here's Akbar on pitch #2.

And the traverse on the 3rd pitch.

Another party starts the 5th pitch.

Akbar on the top of the 4th pitch.

And... finishing the 7th and final pitch.

All smiles at the top of the climb. Thanks Akbar.
