Fionnuala and John on the Breithorn • August 5, 2013

John and Fionnuala are experienced mountain walkers, but wanted an introduction to climbing a glaciated mountain. Kathy met them in Zermatt and together they climbed the Breithorn.

Return to all recent trips

Ready to head out, from the Klein Matterhorn. The "big" Matterhorn is peaking over our shoulder.

We aren't the only ones with this idea on a hot and sunny summer's day.

A strong, fit and fast party, we were soon on the top!

The obligatory summit shot, in a cold wind.

Others also enjoying the glorious views. Dent Blanche and Obergabelhorn in the distance.

A party arriving from the other direction. Lyskam, Pollux, and Castor in the background.

The track being very good and the weather too (aside from the chill wind), we decided to descend the opposite ridge and make a traverse of it.

Learning the meaning of the word, "exposure", John and Fionnuala are undaunted.

Back on the lift and heading for a nice late lunch in Zermatt, Fionnuala and John are already discussing the next adventure.
