The Vacher Family ski holiday, Chamonix • January 4-6, 2013

Last year Piers, Kate and Millie spent a couple of days on the slopes with Kathy. This year they brought Millie's brothers along for the fun.

Return to all recent trips

We spent most of our time skiing the various off-piste runs of the Grands Montets. Piers here on the Glacier de Lognan.

The gang's all here: from left to right, Millie, Piers (in back), Fred, Bertie, and Kate.

Taking a rest break after an intense run down the back bowls.

On our second day we all skiied the Glacier des Rognons to the Argentière Glacier. We pause to take in the views, below the North Face of the Aiguille Verte.

Bertie likes the back country!

Some nice wind-smoothed "packed powder" as we near the bottom of the Glacier des Rognons.

Fred entering the "whoop-de-doos" along the glacier's edge.

Millie checks out the "features" as we scoot below an icefall section.

Pausing to enjoy the scenery after the last of several tricky steps are out of the way.

Another pause to admire a steep line taken by other skiers...

Too much fun can just about destroy you. Looks like we're done for the day...

Piers finished off the last day with a couple of runs off the top with Kathy. Contemplating the steep face of the Glacier de Lognan.

Nice snow in here!

A great way to end the week, and Kathy hopes they'll be back again!
