Matt here is about halfway up the Mönch, with the Jungfrau in the background.

The weather was glorious, as you can see, though breezy and quite cold. Matt pulls over the crux of the rock section on this climb.

The exposure was especially "poignant" on this ascent, as the ridge was quite snow covered for the time of year, and winds and sun had worn the snowy crest to a very narrow peak. In sections the path was barely wider than a single boot, so confidence in one's balance was critical.

The end is in sight, and the track in good "nick".

We made it! Yaaay! And strangely, had few other people on the route to contend with. Matt enjoys his moment on the top.

But of course as always this just means the climb is only halfway done. Matt begins the steep descent of the slopes below the summit ridge.

The next day being still fine, we headed over to the Walcherhorn. The Mönch is behind Matt, the hut tucked into the col over his right shoulder.

Relaxing on the top of the Walcherhorn, the Mönch behind.

Descending from the Walcherhorn, toward the Gross Fiescherhorn. A beautiful ending to a good long Alpine vacation. I hope we'll get to do another one soon.
