David Dougherty, Wetterhorn • August 4-5, 2008

David Dougherty traveled south from Wales for a quick two-day climb with Mark in the Bernese Oberland. Originally planning on trying the Eiger's Mittellegi Ridge, both too much snow on the route, as well as an uncertain weather forecast suggested that perhaps the Wetterhorn might be a better choice.

Other Recent Trips

The Eiger and Grindelwald from the hike up to the Gleckstein hut.

The walk up to the hut is one of the finest in the Bernese Oberland.

David and the Schreckhorn. This shot was taken from a wander up above the hut to a fine viewpoint.

The route up the Wetterhorn from the top of the "wander". All of the upper portion of the climb is hidden on the back side of the ridge.

The following day was largely cloudy, and we had few views.

On the summit of the Wetterhorn. This is normally a very scenic route, but unfortunately not on this day.

The Eiger from part way down the descent.

Climbing down the middle section of the Willsgratli. There is some good and exposed rock climbing on this section of the route.
