Carl Wingquist and Kathy Pierce from Colorado Springs, joined Kathy for a climb of the Breithorn on a cold, late September day.

Carl and Kathy brought good weather with them. Our summit morning was brilliant and clear, but later in the day a bitter wind and gathering high clouds reminded us we were near the end of the summer season.

“The road goes ever on and on…”

The summit! Our stay was brief in a bitter wind.

Casting one last backward glance as the weather came blowing in.

The Breithorn with the Mischabel peaks of Täschhorn and Dom behind. Further away still the Bernese Oberland was visible in the far distance. From left to right are the Jungfrau, Mönch, and Aletschhorn.

Despite clouds gathering at various levels, visibility remained great. Here we are looking west to Mont Blanc on the left, with the Grand Combin on the right.
