Kathy Pierce & Carl Wingquist • Alps Climbing • July 2003

Kathy Pierce and Carl Wingquist, both from Colorado Springs, joined Kathy for a quick climb of the Mönch.

Other Recent Trips

Carl and Kathy ride the train up to the Jungfraujoch.

Every time I ride this route, I marvel at the Swiss precision. Believe it or not, all the screw driver slots in the screws next to Kathy in the wooden seat are aligned straight up and down! Check it out, next time you ride this train.

The Mönch, as seen from near the Jungfraujoch railway station. The normal route, the SE Ridge forms the right skyline. The Mönchsjoch hut is just out of view around the corner of the ridge on the far right.

Looking back at the Jungfrau from the walk to the hut.

The Mönchsjoch hut, perched partly on stilts!

Unfortunately, Carl's knees was bothering him (the consequence of being a competitive weight lifter in his youth!) so it was up to the two Kathys to make the ascent.

Looking up that the route from about half way. Looks like they had a bit of new snow to dust the rocks.

Not far from the top now.

The view towards the Eiger from the summit.

Looking back down the SE Ridge, towards the Finsteraarhorn.
