Photo Information - Chris Kulp the summit on the Aiguille d'Argentière

Return to the March 2002 Newsletter page.

We have just climbed the Flèche Rousse route on the Aiguille d'Argentière and are enjoying a few moments on the summit before descending the normal route. The Flèche Rousse is a fine climb in the classic style of mountaineering—mixed climbing, some easy some hard, long and complex. Unfortunately, (or perhaps fortunately, depending on your point of view) these sorts of climbs have become decreasingly popular. We think this is a shame as moving quickly over varied ground is one of the great joys of alpinism and not to be missed.

Behind Chris are the Aiguille Verte (on the right), Mont Blanc behind and the Droites just behind Chris' left shoulder.
