Photo Information - Mount Aspiring summit, New Zealand

Return to the July 2001 Newsletter page.

Andy Latham enjoys perfect conditions on the summit of Mount Aspiring. The climb is mostly a rock ridge traverse, winding among towers and along an airy crest, but the last hour or so is on snow and easy rock slabs. The summit is very satisfyingly pointy, with great views in all directions. The ridge is never terribly difficult, but constantly involved and requiring care and concentration, so it takes about exactly as long to descend as to get up the thing!
