Photo Information - Finsteraarhorn Skiing

Return to the July 2001 Newsletter page.

Kathy enjoying great skiing on the upper part of the Finsteraarhorn. We had a bit of everything on this descent. A bit crusty up high, the great powder, then firm snow that yielded wonderful corn as the slope steepened just above the Finsteraarhorn hut several thousand feet below. At this point the snow is about to go into the perfect powder section.

We are looking southwest here over toward the Valais Alps. The upper Rhone valley is under the thick layer of cloud in the middle distance. The gentle slope to the right, in the sun leads up to the Gross Wannenhorn, arguably the best ski descent from the Finsteraarhorn hut (at least according to Heinz, the hut keeper, and I would guess he should know.
