Photo Information - Moraine Camp on Alpamayo
Return to the July 2001 Newsletter page.
In this photo, we are packing up to make a carry to high camp, some 2000 feet above. I have always enjoyed the view from this camp. Not only can you see Artesonraju (the big peak in the cloud on the right) but you are right under Quitaraju and Alpamayo (to my back as I took this photo) and also all the Pucajirca peaks, which would be to the left. The Pucajirca summits are complex, wild looking things with multi-tiered hanging glaciers, steep flutings and more snow mushrooms than you can shake a stick at.
Also, the clean granite, glacially polished slabs are always a pleasure to sunbathe on (if it is ever warm enough!)
