Photo Information - Pico Schultz

Here, Kathy has just finished the steep section of our climb of Pico Schulze. Below her are several pitches along a wonderful mixed rock and ice ridge, very exposed but not too hard. From here there are moderate snow slopes to the distinct summit.

Pico Schulze is a satellite peak of Illampu, but a great climbing objective in its own right. There are no really easy ways up, but a number of great routes of all difficulties. We used the ascent for acclimatization, before climbing nearby Illampu, but found that the climb of Schulze was great fun, and a good challenge alone. For anyone planning an ascent of Illampu I strongly recommend including Pico Schulze as well.
