Along the Midi-Plan Traverse, France

The traverse from the Aiguille du Midi to the Aiguille du Plan is one of the super-classic high altitude tours in the Mont Blanc Massif. The route winds along airy snow aretes, crosses rock towers and always offers incredible views. This shot was taken from just below the Plan, looking south, back at some of the Traverse route.

After completing the traverse many climbers return to the Aiguille du Midi, while others descend down and left into the lower reaches of the Geant Glacier and the Mer de Glace. This latter descent involves tricky crevassed glaciers, but gives an incredible tour of the entire Chamonix Aiguille chain.

This photo was take on a climb with Emery Dameron.
