Photo Information - Solvay Hut

Sunrise greets climbers as they arrive at the Solvay hut. This is an emergency bivouac hut perched on a tiny ledge at 4003 meters. These climbers have already climbed 2400 feet from the Hörnli Hut this morning, much of it in the dark. They have another 1600 feet to go to get to the summit. With the sun just rising as we get to the hut, we are making good time and should have no difficulties reaching to top and safely retracing our steps, if conditions are good (which on this ascent they were). Though the Matterhorn is often crowded, particularly on a great day like this one, is truly is unique, both historically and because of the nature of the climb itself, so improbable. It should not be missed.
