Mount Kenya Expedition

Because of the many variables of trip length and route we need to know your particular plans to come up with a cost estimate.

Please give us a call or email to discuss the various options. As a suggestion, 8 days – Nairobi return – is a good length for a climb of Nelion. And 10 days is a good length for Batian via the North Side route.

For private expeditions, we charge a guides wage of € 400 Euros per day per guide.

In addition you will have to cover your expenses as well as your guide's.

You or your group pay for expenses incurred during the program, either with a deposit in advance or as the trip progresses.

In addition to these expenses we charge a portion of other fixed costs we incur in-country, travel to and from our home in France, and minor other expenses.

Finally we add a daily guides wage as listed above.

What do the guide wages include?

  • UIAGM / IFMGA and AMGA certified guides, Kathy Cosley and/or Mark Houston.
  • Maximum climber to guide ratio varies with the difficulty of the project.

Your personal expenses, are those that you incur, and pay for, before, and in the course of the expedition, such as:

  • flights
  • local logistics and staff
  • transfers
  • hotels
  • hut fees
  • meals
  • insurance
  • permits and park entry fees
  • tips to local staff

When do I pay these fees and expenses?

The guide wages portion is paid in advance, partly as a deposit when you first sign up, and the balance before the balance due date. See the "Booking info" link on the main page describing this tour for more detail.

The expenses you incur during the expedition are normally paid during the trip. For some expenses, your guide may elect to pay on your behalf. This makes things easier for you. You can reimburse the guides later in the trip, or once you return home.
